Minnesota Electric Rates Are Rising: What Homeowners Can Do
Your Minnesota electric bill is climbing for two separate reasons stacked on top of each other: the state approved real rate increases on top of an interim surcharge Xcel's been billing since January 2025, and this summer was hot enough that air conditioners ran harder and longer than usual. Neither of those goes away on its own, but a fair amount of what you pay each month is still tied to how efficiently your home actually uses electricity, and that part you can do something about.
